The Montreal Canadiens traded back from 103rd overall to acquire picks #113 and #190 from the Los Angeles Kings. That 113th pick was then traded to acquire #117 from the Vegas Golden Knights along with the penultimate pick of the draft at #223.
With the 117th selection in the draft, the Canadiens chose a third defenceman, Brayden Klimpke.
Unlike the first two blue-liners Montreal selected on day two, Klimpke shoots left, and is also a first-year eligible. He’s not a big player at 6’0″ and 174 pounds, but is a minute-eating, mobile defenceman who can contribute offensively.
Kilmpke is committed to the University of North Dakota, and won’t play for them for another season, so this a long-term project for the Canadiens.
Montreal is set to select again at 189th overall in the sixth round, having dealt their fifth-round pick to the San Jose Sharks to shed the contract of Carey Price.
