With a second pick in the sixth round, and their eighth of the 2025 NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens added defenceman Andrew MacNiel from the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers.

MacNiel played his first season as a full-time OHL player this season, dressing in 33 games. The defenceman who stands at 6’2″ but weighs just 170 pounds had three assists in that time an was a -6.
With so little experience at the Major Junior level, it’s difficult to say what type of player MacNiel could become, and it’s that uncertainty that the Canadiens likely took a gamble on at this stage of the draft.
Montreal has one more selection to make in the, at 209th.
