Deep inside the fifth round of the NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens stepped up to the podium and walked away with another massive goalie to add to their stable of prospects. Alexis Cournoyer was not even in the QMJHL to start the year, originally playing in the MJAHL before making the jump over in the new year.

The move to Cape Breton seemed to bring out the best in Cournoyer as he became one of the top netminders in the QMJHL leading up to the playoffs. Standing 6’4″, he’s a massive presence between the pipes and has the technical aspects more dialed in than his counterparts.
He’s set to join Cornell University in the upcoming season, another major step forward for the goaltending prospect as he joins the NCAA ranks.
Montreal will be back on the clock at 177th overall.
