Montreal Canadiens trade Alex Galchenyuk to Arizona Coyotes for Max Domi

The rumblings about Alex Galchenyuk being on the trading block have finally come to fruition as the Canadiens have traded the 24-year-old forward to the Arizona Coyotes for Max Domi.

As it stands, the trade appears to be player for player, with no picks or prospects involved ahead of next week’s NHL Entry Draft.

In 418 games with the Canadiens Galchenyuk tallied 108 goals and 147 assists, but couldn’t earn the trust of his coaches to take over a full-time role at the centre position. Max Domi has played 222 NHL games, compiling 36 goals and 99 assists along with 185 penalty minutes.

While Galchenyuk played both wing and centre for the Canadiens, Domi is listed as a left winger, meaning that this trade doesn’t help solve the Habs biggest issue heading into the off-season.
