Alex Galchenyuk out indefinitely

The Montreal Canadiens provided a health update on Alex Galchenyuk, and the news wasn’t great.

He will be evaluated by doctors upon his return to Montreal.

Galchenyuk left yesterday’s afternoon game against the Los Angeles Kings with a lower body injury after a collision with the Kings Anze Kopitar.

In the video below, you can see it was a pretty innocent looking play but there was knee on knee contact which can lead to trouble.

Galchenyuk has been one of the Habs best forwards this season with nine goals and 14 assists in 25 games. The most worrisome thing is that there is not really anybody to replace him at centre on the team’s top line.

Not only is Galchenyuk hurt, but Michael McCarron, and Charles Hudon are also hurt who were the two most offensive-minded centres in the Habs organization to be called up.

The Canadiens may bring Sven Andrighetto back, and can play Andrew Shaw or Phillip Danault at centre. Paul Byron or Brian Flynn have played centre as well.

Alexander Radulov has also played centre, most notably in his time in the KHL.

Montreal plays St. Louis tomorrow night and we will see how they line up tomorrow. There was no practice today.
