The Montreal Canadiens have made a move to keep a veteran on the AHL team in Laval. Alex Belzile has re-signed on a one-year contract.

Belzile spent several years in the Canadiens organization before signing with the New York Rangers hoping for an NHL opportunity in 2023-24. After two years spent entirely with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL, he was brought back to Montreal last season, and will now play a seventh season in the organization.
With the quality the Canadiens have now, Belzile knows an NHL recall is unlikely, but he clearly enjoys the environment in Laval. Turning 35 before the 2026-27 season begins, he will be playing one of the final seasons of his career close to home.
The veteran had the best season of his professional career last season, contributing 62 points in 66 games for Laval to lead the team, and scored two goals in a brief playoff run as Laval lost to the eventual Calder Cup champion Toronto Marlies. Belzile and the Rocket will hope for better fortunes this year.
