Alex Belzile, Sean Monahan out for the rest of the season

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that Alex Belzile and Sean Monahan will both be out the remainder of the 2022-23 NHL season.

Belzile has a broken leg and will not play the rest of the season. He has played 31 NHL games this season with six goals and eight assists. He has been a solid contributor since being recalled, playing wing and centre.

The team also confirmed that forward Sean Monahan needed groin surgery and has also been ruled out for the rest of the year. Monahan injured the groin while rehabbing a different injury. His season comes to an end after six goals and 11 assists in 25 games. His last game was on December 5.

Both Belzile and Monahan will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

The team also confirmed that Juraj Slafkovsky will not return this season. He was injured in January, and was said to be out three months.

The Canadiens have five games remaining. Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, Jordan Harris, Jake Evans, and Jake Allen also did not participate in Monday’s practice.
