The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they have sent defenceman Cale Fleury and forward Ryan Poehling from the team’s taxi squad to the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League.

The two spots on the taxi squad were not immediately replaced. The Canadiens don’t play again until Wednesday, and have time to bring players to their group. The Rocket do not have an official schedule yet, but this is another indication that action should start as soon as this weekend.

Fleury and Poehling have yet to play a game this season, and going to the AHL will allow them to play games as opposed to being limited to practices at the NHL level on the taxi squad.

Potential replacements to the taxi squad include Alex Belzile, Jordan Weal, and Xavier Ouellet, among others. The Canadiens are still over the taxi squad minimum requirement as they sent Corey Perry and Jesperi Kotkaniemi to the taxi squad for cap savings between games.
