The Montreal Canadiens have sent forward Michael Frolik from the taxi squad to the AHL’s Laval Rocket, the team announced on Monday.
The Canadiens have assigned forward Michael Frolik to the AHL’s Laval Rocket for conditioning purposes. The Club plans to re-assign him to the taxi squad on Saturday.— Canadiens Montréal (@CanadiensMTL) February 15, 2021
The team says they will recall him to the taxi squad in time for Saturday’s game. Frolik has not played a game this season, and this is a good opportunity to have him play games. The Rocket play on Tuesday and Friday.
With Paul Byron on waivers, the team will have an opportunity for Frolik to play games in the NHL regardless of whether he is claimed or not. This allows Frolik to get some games in at the AHL level to put him in the best position to succeed at the NHL level.
This adds a 20th forward to the Rocket, but they do have Alex Belzile and Ryan Poehling with minor injuries and who missed games over the weekend. They won both their games by 5-1 scores.
