The Montreal Canadiens have assigned Jake Evans and Christian Folin to the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League ahead of their trip to Detroit.

Both players looked better in their stint in the NHL, but with Paul Byron and Shea Weber close to a return if not in the lineup on Tuesday against Detroit, the team needed to make room on the roster.

Folin had a goal and an assist in seven NHL games this season. Him going down means that Rocket captain Xavier Ouellet will remain with the team. Folin was recalled first and was closer to needing waivers. Ouellet also moved ahead of him in the depth chart playing more games.

Evans impressed in his first NHL stint, scoring a goal in six games. In his last game, he replaced Nate Thompson at centre. Thompson and Jonathan Drouin, who missed Saturday’s game are both expected to play.

Both players will be welcomed with open arms by the Rocket who are in the middle of a five-game losing streak and have one win in their last 10 games.
