Charlie Lindgren assigned to the Laval Rocket ahead of the regular season

Lindgren will take the AHL starting role for the third consecutive season.

With the NHL pre-season complete, the Montreal Canadiens have sent Charlie Lindgren to the AHL.

Lindgren was in Montreal looking to grab the backup role, but with his waiver-exempt status (which runs until the end of this season) and Antti Niemi playing well to begin his one-year contract extension, it was a fairly simple decision to assign Lindgren to the minors.

He will take the starting role for the Laval Rocket, with Michael McNiven serving as his backup this year. Lindgren should get his first game of action when the Rocket visit the Providence Bruins on October 6.
