When the NHL put together the 4 Nations Face-Off a year ago to bring an international flavour to its mid-season showcase, the games between Canada and the United States proved just how close the two nations were. The final game set the tone for this year’s Olympics, the first proper international best-on-best tournament since 2014. Once again it is the two North American nations that will clash in the final, this time with a coveted gold medal on the line.
The NHL tournament’s game were physical ones, and this one isn’t expected to be any different. We’ve already seen Connor McDavid throwing hits, and every player will be joining in on the physicality in today’s game. The contest will still feature some of the best offensive talent in the world to combine for some great offensive plays.
Sidney Crosby is questionable and Nathan MacKinnon is not at 100%, while Tage Thompson left the semifinal early with an ailment as well. Each team is dealing with some issues that could affect deployments today, so some players may be called upon to play major minutes.
It’s a toss-up to determine who will come out on top. Even the quarter-final stage showed how close all the top eight teams are with three of those games requiring overtime. Anything can happen in a one-game showdown, and that’s the stage today to claim the biggest prize in the sport of hockey.
