2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics
Quarter-final 1: Slovakia vs. Germany
How to watch
Start time: 6:10 AM EDT / 12:10 PM CET
In Canada: Sportsnet (English) RDS (French)
Streaming: CBC Gem, RDS, Sportsnet+
Germany had a fairly easy time versus France in the qualification round, scoring early, ending the opening period with a 3-0 lead, and going on to claim a 5-1 win. They face a much tougher opponent today in Slovakia, which also has the benefit of an additional day off with their bye to this quarter-final round. It will be a battle led by Leon Draisaitl and Juraj Slafkovský to see which team moves on to play in the semifinals on Friday.
Quarter-final 2: Canada vs. Czechia
How to watch
Start time: 10:40 AM EDT / 4:40 PM CET
In Canada: CBC, TSN (English) ICI Télé (French)
Streaming: CBC Gem, TSN+
Since all the higher seeds won in the qualification stage, Canada’s reward for finishing as the best team in the preliminary round is eighth-ranked Czechia. This is the only game of the first two days of the elimination playoffs featuring teams that already met once before, and on that occasion Canada emerged with a 5-1 victory. History shows it’s tough to beat the same team twice in tournament play, but Canada will still be a heavy favourite to advance to the semifinal.
Quarter-final 3: Finland vs. Switzerland
How to watch
Start time: 12:10 PM EDT / 6:10 PM CET
In Canada: Sportsnet (English) ICI Télé (French)
Streaming: CBC Gem, Sportsnet+
Philipp Kurashev scored 79 seconds into the qualification game versus Italy, and it turned out that was all the offence Switzerland needed as the country claimed its second shutout of the tournament with a 3-0 win. Finland beat the Italians 11-0 earlier in the tournament, however, so the defensive play that has helped the Swiss reach this stage will be put to the test by a nation that has found its scoring touch.
Quarter-final 4: United States vs. Sweden
How to watch
Start time: 3:10 PM EDT / 9:10 PM CET
In Canada: Sportsnet (English) ICI Télé (French)
Streaming: CBC Gem, Sportsnet+
Sweden has been preparing for this game ever since Slovakia scored a late goal on February 14 to win the group and drop the Swedes to third. They were pushed a bit harder than they would have liked against Latvia yesterday, leading just 3-1 after two periods and finishing with a 28-21 shot advantage. Fatigue will become an issue if the Americans play their hard-working style for 60 minutes.
