The Edmonton Oilers were able to come back from falling behind by three goals in the opening period of Game 4 to eventually win the game in overtime. In Saturday’s Game 5 they weren’t so lucky after going into the first intermission trailing by multiple goals again, with that deficit growing to three shortly into the middle frame. Florida kept pace with any offence Edmonton generated from there, and left Rogers Place with a 5-2 victory and a 3-2 series lead.
For the first time this post-season, the Oilers are facing elimination. Tonight could see a repeat of last year’s finish as the second-best team, behind the Panthers, and that will be inspiration enough for everyone to put in their best effort to avoid another disappointing outcome.
The crease has once again been given to Stuart Skinner as head coach Kris Knoblauch hopes that can be the difference in the game. Skinner has been pulled from each of his last two starts in this series, including after the first period of the Game 4 comeback. The Oilers need their goaltender to play the way he did in the middle two rounds of these playoffs if they’re going to head home to play a Game 7.
