After a couple of days off to allow the players some extra time for the travel, the Stanley Cup Final reconvenes in Florida with the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers tied at a game apiece. The opening two matches at Rogers Place couldn’t have been closer, each requiring overtime and seeing winning goals from Leon Draisaitl in Game 1 and Brad Marchand in Game 2.
It is fair to say that the Panthers’ road dominance didn’t show up versus a solid Oilers lineup. Florida has been a better road team than a host in the past couple of series, and the Oilers will hope to take advantage of that. Their task is to return the favour and take one of these next two games in Florida to wrest home-ice advantage back in their favour, but of course they wouldn’t mind the sweep.
The first two games of this series have been among the best played in 2024-25, and there’s no reason to expect anything different tonight. The margins will be as slim as they have been so far, and one big play from a star player might be the difference.
