The general managers of the NHL have been busy in the past couple of weeks. After first submitting protected lists for the Seattle Kraken expansion draft and then losing a player from the organization, they entered the NHL Draft to add the next wave of prospects.
Now it’s the 2021-22 roster they have to focus on, with some teams needing to replace the talent lost to the newst franchise, or players that will leave the organization when their contracts expire today.
Unrestricted free agents are free to sign with new clubs (officially) starting at 12:00 PM EDT. One of those players won’t be Alex Ovechkin, who signed a five-year deal to finish his career in Washington where it started. Colorado also locked up one of the members of perhaps the top line in the game when Gabriel Landeskog was given an eight-year extension.
There are a few big names still needing landing spots, and plenty of minor deals to be made as well to shore up depth around the league.
