Mailloux made headlines for a conviction for an offence stemming from a sexual encounter in Sweden, with the unconensual sharing of a photo of a woman performing a sexual act. He was handed a summary fine in Sweden for the offence, which is equivalent to a conviction under the Canadian system. After the news was made public he recused himself from the draft, but the Canadiens used their first-round pick to select him.
He spent much of the 2020-21 season in Sweden’s third tier after the Ontario Hockey League season was cancelled. The right-handed defenceman is is expected to play with the Knights next year.
