Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele will have a hearing on Thursday regarding the hit on Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans, the department of player safety announced.

The person will be done over the phone, which means the discipline will be five games or less. If the suspension would be more, he would have been offered an in-person hearing over Zoom.

The hearing is regarding charging, which indicates what the department will be looking at. The definition of charging is more wide-ranging than it would be for a hit to the head. Scheifele received a game misconduct and five-minute major for the hit in the third period of Montreal’s 5-3 win on Wednesday.

Game two of the series is on Friday, followed by games three and four on Sunday and Monday in Montreal.

The Jets were already without Paul Stastny, and Dylan DeMelo left the game early in the first period with injuries.
