The Canadiens have played the last few weeks of the season fairly certain they would seal a post-season place, though their path to getting there was a bit hazy. Now things are clear: Get a point, get in.

They could have done that any time in the past three games, but were unable to make it happen versus the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. There are now two chances left for the Habs to take cross the finish line themselves rather than wait for the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks to take themselves out of the race in a four-game series to close out the NHL’s regular season.

Montreal gets an injection of speed tonight as Paul Byron comes off the injured list to slot in beside Jake Evans. It’s been a disappointing year for Byron, but if he can help his team get a good result tonight, a fresh start will await him and his team when the post-season begins.
