For several weeks, try as they might, the Canadiens couldn’t string wins together. They’d come up with a big win and then follow it up with a loss in one form or another the next match. Through it all, they were at least collecting handfuls of points by getting many of the games to overtime before finding a novel way to hand over the victory. It turns out that that accumulation of ‘loser points’ was enough to keep them sailing along as their nearest competitors sputtered alongside them.

The Habs have been much more consistent in their play coming out of their imposed break, and they have a three-game winning streak as a result. The efforts have taken them well out of reach of any challenger, leaving them only looking ahead.

To keep eveyone motivated to keep the streak alive, Dominique Ducharme has made some changes to his lineup, justified by the likely return or Tyler Toffoli this evening. Michael Frolik returns the sidelines to allow Toffoli’s return, but all lines other than the unstoppable one at the top of the lineup will look a bit different.

Jonathan Drouin and Nick Suzuki have been broken up, giving Kotkaniemi a chance to play with the skilled winger tonight. The two of them will host Toffoli in his first game back for what should be a tough trio for the Senators to handle. Suzuki gets the veteran savvy and slick hands of Corey Perry to work with, and has the familiar face of Josh Anderson to his right. That is also a line capable of doing major damage, and Ducharme will no doubt be looking for every opportunity to get them out versus tired or mismatched opponents.
