New, comments

The report after the game was that Tatar had been dealing with an ailment coming into Saturday’s contest.

Tomas Tatar barely played in the third period of Saturday’s game, and afterward we learned that not only was he out with a lower-body injury, but had been suffering through it going into the contest.

Already down Brendan Gallagher, Tatar’s loss would be another big one for the team if he’s unable to go on Monday night. Tatar had most recently had a two-assist game to help Montreal get past Edmonton on Monday, getting him up to 29 points on the season.

In two days’ time, Jonathan Drouin will probably be over whatever illness affected him and kept him out of the weekend back-to-back, so the Canadiens may not need to bring someone else up from Laval on an emergency basis if Tatar can’t go.

It’s also important to note that since the issue with getting Caufield into the lineup is purely salary-cap related, unless LTIR is involved, a player simply ruled out with an injury doesn’t to anything to alleviate the financial constraints the team is facing.
