The Montreal Canadiens have announced that Cole Caufield has been called up to their taxi squad ahead of tonight’s game against the Calgary Flames.
The Canadiens have recalled forward Cole Caufield from the AHL’s Laval Rocket to the taxi squad. Goaltender Cayden Primeau has also been recalled on an emergency basis by the club. #GoRocket #GoHabsGo pic.twitter.com/vjXOPTXlwf— Rocket de Laval (@RocketLaval) April 16, 2021
Being on the taxi squad means he likely will not make his debut tonight, but it should be forthcoming. Caufield has four points in just two AHL games with the Laval Rocket since signing his ELC out of college, so there has been a lot of hype surrounding him.
With the Rocket’s next game on April 21 and only two games for the remainder of the month, it makes sense for him to practice with the NHL team. We will see how long he remains on the taxi squad, and whether he will travel out west with the team next week.
They also called up Cayden Primeau on an emergency basis, which unfortunately means that Carey Price must not be quite ready to go from his undisclosed injury. As such, it will likely be another Jake Allen start for the Habs tonight.
Montreal plays two games in less than 24 hours with an afternoon game on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators after Friday evening’s game.
