In Thursday’s game between the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets, Victor Mete was held out of action for the third period, as the coaching staff reduced the bench to five defencemen trying to get back in the game. At today’s practice, it was recent taxi squad call-up Otto Leskinen taking his turn next to Alexander Romanov.

Leskinen had been having a great year in the AHL before getting brought up. In 23 games he had one goal and 13 assists as the Laval Rocket’s most trusted defenceman, with a plus-13 rating on what was the best team in the division. He got into five games for Montreal last year, and it looks like he may be getting his first chance tonight for the 2020-21 campaign.

At forward, there was one change: Tyler Toffoli and Josh Anderson will switch spots, with Toffoli moving to Nick Suzuki’s wing, and Anderson playing alongside Eric Staal. Indications are that Jake Allen will be getting another start, his third in four days.
