Since he scored the opening goal in a rather boring first period in his return to the lineup, it’s fair to say that Josh Anderson woke up the Canadiens’ slumbering offence in a 7-1 victory on Saturday night. It wasn’t a beautiful finish or even a trademark net-drive, but it put the Canadiens on the board, giving them a first-period lead for the first time in nearly a month, and helped set the stage for the rest of the game.

Nearly everyone got in on the fun. Even Phillip Danault, who has looked bewildered in the offensive zone all season long, pulled off two of the nicest cross-ice passes of the year to set up Brendan Gallagher’s first multi-goal night of this shortened campaign.

Now that they’ve all been reminded of the offensive capabilities of this year’s team, they head back to Vancouver where the real promise of that full-lineup skill was shown in the opening two weeks of the season, seeing the Habs put up 17 goals in the three-game series. The Canucks were much stingier when they hosted Toronto in their most recent action, allowing the Maple Leafs a mere three goals in back-to-back wins. Can the Canucks replicate that defensive performance again tonight, or will Tyler Toffoli and the Canadiens’ forward attack prove too much for Tyler Myers and Vancouver’s defence?
