After scoring at will in the first five games versus the Canucks, the Canadiens faced a more resistant defence on Monday night, and also a focused Thatcher Demko in net. The goaltender went save for save with Carey Price, in what was an unexpected goaltending duel in what had been a one-sided matchup all season long.

The coaches of both teams are hoping to see that solid netminding again tonight, and that means both goaltenders are back in. It’s a third consecutive start for Price, who is looking far more steady in his crease than he was earlier in the season, and a fourth straight appearance for Demko who has allowed a total of four goals on his personal four-game winning streak.

Dominique Ducharme has shaken up his forward units a bit hoping to find a bit more offensive finish for his team. It means the end of the Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Josh Anderson partnership for now, but the reuniting of the Jonathan Drouin - Nick Suzuki - Anderson trio that has looked dangerous in the majority of its games this year. Kotkaniemi will instead have Brendan Gallagher on his wing tonight, giving him a grinder to work opposite the shooting talent of Tyler Toffoli.
