Amid some well documented struggles through 10 games this season, the Montreal Canadiens have elected to make some lineup changes. They announced today that Cole Caufield has been assigned to the Laval Rocket, and Michael Pezzetta will take his spot on the roster for the time being.

Caufield has struggled to get going this season, and has no goals through his 10 games of action. Pezzetta, on the other hand, has been off to a red hot start with the Rocket, with six points in just eight games. He will also add some grit to the Habs lineup, as he is more than willing to drop the gloves given the invitation.
This reads as a move essentially admitting defeat, however, as Pezzetta is not nearly as skilled as Caufield, and despite his hot start in the AHL, those numbers are probably not sustainable at the next level.
That being said, something was in need to jump start the confidence of Caufield, as he has been visibly frustrated in games this year, and could perhaps use a drop in competition to get things going.
