Pre-season Game 6: Montreal Canadiens vs. Ottawa Senators

How to watch

Start time: 7:00 PM EDT / 4:00 PM PDT
In the Canadiens/Senators region: TSN5, RDS
Streaming: NHL.tv/NHL Live, RDS Direct, TSN Direct

The Canadiens have been providing great entertainment for fans in attendance for their pre-season matches. The home crowd has enjoyed the victory in all five games they’ve played, and there were plenty of aggravating goal songs and way-too-long goal horns in the three road contests they played. Those games were lost by a combined score of 17-5.

The good news is they wrap up the pre-season schedule with a date at home with the Senators. Despite the scoreboard being close — a 2-1 decision in Montreal’s favour — it was a one-sided affair the last time the teams met at the Bell Centre. That was Brendan Gallagher’s first game, and he quickly brought himself up to speed to make up for lost time. He got on the board with a power-play goal to prove he was ready to go.

He played that game on a line with Nick Suzuki, but that was just a temporary assignment as he seems destined to help out Jake Evans this year in defensive duties. His trio is listed as a third line, but will likely be the one opposing coaches work hardest to avoid.

Being the last game of the pre-season, the lineup should be the closest thing we’ve seen to a proper NHL roster so far. Montreal opted to try out more minor-leaguers on Tuesday night (and were dealt a scoreline to match that plan), but the coaching staff needs to get all the players working together with the ones they’re going to start the season with. Heading back to Toronto to take on the team that just walloped them 6-2 for the season-opener, they’ll want to leave the pre-season behind on a victorious note.
