Bottom Six Minutes 8: Jake Allen, Shark Killer

Jake Allen put on a masterclass to earn Montreal’s first win in San Jose in over 20 years.

The Montreal Canadiens followed up their first win of the season with an absolute stinker of a first trip to Seattle, and the games don’t get any easier for them on this Western swing. The first foray to the Pacific each season tends to be unkind to them, and they saw a San Jose Sharks team on Thursday that was already rather unkind to them at the Bell Centre earlier in the year.

Welcome to your Bottom Six Minutes, in which I’ll discuss the Habs finally exorcising their Shark demons.

Jake Allen was absolutely dialed in for this one. A few nights after getting lit up by the Seattle Kraken, he played like a man that was absolutely furious about it. Easily his best performance of the year, and frankly one of the better goaltending performances one can be treated to watch.

The team in front of him was certainly not perfect, but it was definitely a better effort than we’ve grown accustomed to this season. Solid games from Jonathan Drouin, Brendan Gallagher, Mike Hoffman, and Alexander Romanov stood out, and the overall product is something for this struggling squad to build on.
