Bottom Six Minutes 4: Fire Marc Bergevin

It’s only four games into the Montreal Canadiens season, but something has got to give.

Three games into their young season, the Montreal Canadiens took to home ice once more looking for their first win over the San Jose Sharks. Looking completely helpless in the process, they failed to do so.

Welcome to your angriest Bottom Six Minutes in the history of the podcast.

Marc Bergevin has reportedly been offered a contract extension as this team’s General Manager. If Geoff Molson has any sense, he’d march into that office, retrieve the written offer, and set it ablaze. The same reports suggest that Bergevin is still weighing his options, so how about making his decision a little easier by removing the Montreal option altogether. It’s time.

As much as he can claim some credit for the magical run the team made to the Stanley Cup finals, he has to wear their embarrassments, this horrid start included. His best seasons in his role have been authored by Carey Price, a player he had zero hand in acquiring, and the absence of whom has badly exposed the way this team is built.

Heads must roll when you have a start this embarrassing, and if it isn’t Bergevin to go, perhaps they should look at the coaching staff. I’ll have some words for them as well, though my text above should suffice to tell you where I’d start.

Hit the play button below if you’re interested in that kind of thing, and regardless of this start, we will be back with another episode following Thursday’s return of Jesperi Kotkaniemi and his Carolina Hurricanes to the Bell Centre.
