Montreal Canadiens vs. San Jose Sharks

How to watch

Start time: 7:00 PM EDT / 4:00 PM PDT
In the Canadiens region: TSN2 (English), RDS (French)
In the Sharks region: NBC Sports California
Streaming: ESPN+, NHL Live, RDS Direct, TSN Direct

Tonight we will see two debuts for the Canadiens. Adam Brooks, claimed off waivers just before the season began, will centre the third line in Jake Evans’s place, while Mathieu Perreault will step aside for Mike Hoffman.

Hoffman had injured himself in training before camp got under way and was just recently cleared to play. He was probably itching to get into the lineup seeing how many issues his new club was having offensively, and finally gets to lend his services to the fold in game four of the season.

Montreal faces a Sharks club that has had a light schedule to this point, playing only one game versus the Winnipeg Jets so far. Tonight is the first game of a five-game road trip to the east that will have them knock out several of their matches requiring the longest travel right off the bat.

They’re doing it all without their top scorer from a season ago. Evander Kane has been suspended for issuing a fake vaccination record to his team. San Jose has had to dig into its depth to find enough replacements for its roster, but still has some star players on the trip, including Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl.

The Sharks earned their one win on the back of their special-teams play — two power-play goals and one short-handed — so the Habs will need to be better in both situations to keep pace with the Californian club.
