Sunday’s game was a battle between goalies playing at the top of their game coming in, but tonight’s match in New Jersey is a battle of the backups. The Super Bowl matinee didn’t really live up to its billing, so perhaps the number-two netminders can go a bit off-script and provide a proper duel this evening.

It would be a first in this shocking season series that has seen plenty of goals. The most recent result was a 6-4 decision for the Devils at the Bell Centre, in one of the worst performances the defence has put on display this season. At the very least it was entertaining, and that’s really all you can ask for from a clash of teams likely to miss out on the post-season.
