Montreal Canadiens defenceman Victor Mete will miss the rest of the season with a broken foot, the team announced on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old played in 51 games this season as he missed 14 games to date with various injuries. He scored the first four goals of his NHL career and added 11 assists.
The latest injury occurred against the Detroit Red Wings on February 18. He left the game after playing 8:07. He also missed time in December with an ankle injury.
The Canadiens organization is tapped out on defencemen. Christian Folin and Karl Alzner are in the NHL with no seventh defenceman. Xavier Ouellet and Otto Leskinen (in Laval) are also out with concussions. Evan McEneny left the Rocket’s last game after being boarded by former Canadien Ryan White.
The Rocket are relying on two tryouts to fill out the remainder of their lineup. They play in Belleville on Wednesday.
