Marc Bergevin was quiet on the first day of free agency, having done his work in the days leading up to it. He had signed recently acquired free agents Joel Edmundson and Josh Anderson, to four- and seven-year contracts respectively.
His lone move so far on Friday was to sign Victor Mete to a one-year contract extension, locking up one of the three remaining RFAs on his docket. This is what he said about his work around the free-agency period.
On whether he’s done with free agency
“We never end our days. With technology today, we’re always working.”
“I feel really good about our team and if I can make it better, I will.” Marc Bergevin. Mentioned he would keep some cushion under the cap in case of injury and to keep option to add open as the season goes on. Was talking about $1.5M in terms of cushion.
