The Calgary Flames come into Montreal in peak form, winners of thier previous five contests. They’ve been doing just the opposite of Montreal on the Habs’ eight-game losing streak: coming out on top in one-goal games.

It certainly helped that most of those teams were well outside a playoff position, but wins are wins when you’re in a battle for a post-season spot. They did get by the Edmonton Oilers with a place at the top of the Pacific Division on the line on Saturday, and now look to keep rolling on a brief trip to the East.

Montreal doesn’t have a fully healthy roster as the Flames have enjoyed, but those injuries for the home side have created an opportunity for Ilya Kovalchuk to show he still has plenty to offer an NHL team, and it was his shot that ended the losing streak at eight in the last contest. He’s been firing plenty of pucks in his time in Montreal, 11 in four games, and is so far a point-per-game player with his new team. He’s giving the club a rare offensive-minded forward that they’ve missed for a few months now, and he’ll likely be a big factor in tonight’s game as well.
