The Montreal Canadiens face the Detroit Red Wings for the fourth and final time this season. That’s a shame for a Habs team trying to keep pace in the playoff race, because it’s been a one-sided matchup all season long.

The three previous contests were won by a combined score of 18-6, with the 8-1 decision on February 26 the largest margin so far. That night belonged to the line of Jonathan Drouin, Max Domi, and Andrew Shaw, recording 12 points among the three of them, and Shaw completing his first NHL hat trick to cap it all off.

A loss on Friday in a game the Canadiens should have won has made their path to a post-season slot more difficult that it needed to be. All they can do now is focus on winning their own games, and nothing less than a victory tonight can be acceptable.

No one will want to win it more than Carey Price, who not only has a chance to set the franchise wins record on home ice, but also erase the memory of an eight-goal outing in Anaheim. He and his teammates should be expected to look more like the Canadiens team we’ve seen for most of the season than the perplexed group we saw four nights ago.
