Matthew Peca will be missing six weeks with a knee injury, the Montreal Canadiens announced on Thursday.

Peca has played four games with the Canadiens this season after being recalled by the Laval Rocket. He did not record any points.

The injury bug has hit the Canadiens organization hard as Peca now joins Paul Byron, Jonathan Drouin, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Alex Belzile, Michael McCarron, Phil Varone, and William Pelletier on the injured list — and that just includes forwards. Victor Mete and Noah Juulsen are also out with injuries.

The team sent Ryan Poehling back to the Laval Rocket earlier on Thursday, and the Rocket have added forwards James Phelan and Ralph Cuddemi to professional try out contracts.

Cuddemi has 21 goals and 13 assists in 25 ECHL games this season and leads the league in scoring. Phelan has one goal and three assists in 19 games in the ECHL this season.

It is possible that Poehling plays in Laval on Friday before going back to Montreal for Saturday’s game if Paul Byron is not ready to play.
