The Red Wings are off to a fine start in 2019-20, finding a good deal of offence from their roster, especially those at the top. It’s a much better opening to the new season than they experienced last year, as they went winless in their first seven games.

Montreal will hope one thing stays the same from a season ago, and that is the complete domination of their Atlantic Division opponent. Not only did the Canadiens win all four games — in regulation — but they posted 21 goals to the seven the Red Wings could muster, the most lopsided game being an 8-1 decision in February.

After three games in which they were forced to come from behind just to earn a point, a more relaxed night would be welcome for the group about to play the second game of a three-in-four-nights stretch. Goal-scoring hasn’t been a major concern for Montreal so far, and there’s no reason why it should dry up tonight. Netting a few early rather than waiting for the third period will prevent unnecessary stress for the coach and fans alike.
