Sweden’s dominance of the preliminary round of the World Junior Hockey Championship continues in the 2019 tournament. They’ve added their 45th and 46th wins to that 12-year run, cementing their legacy as one of the strongest hockey nations in the world.
The USA is matching their record through two games, but one team is going to lose tonight in Victoria, just about sealing first place in the group.
The Americans will be without the services of 2019 draft prospect Jack Hughes, missing his second game of the tournament. There are still plenty of quality players up front for the team, so the loss isn’t a catastrophic one. Montreal Canadiens centre prospect Ryan Poehling stepped up admirably in Hughes’s absence last night, and will be relied up on at both ends again tonight.
He’ll be playing another Habs draftee in the game, with Jacob Olofsson attempting to keep Sweden’s streak intact. It should be one of the best games of the tournament so far, and the two Montreal properties could have a lot to say in the final decision.
