2019 World Junior Hockey Championship schedule: January 4, 2019

Relegation Round

12 PM ET: Kazakhstan vs Denmark (Kazakhstan leads best-of-three series 1-0)

Denmark has not been this close to relegation since re-entering the top division in 2015. After a 4-3 loss in the opening game, the Danes are in a must-win situation to stay in the tournament. The last time a third game was needed in the best-of-three relegation series was in 2014 when Germany needed three games to defeat Norway.

Semi-finals

4 PM ET: United States vs Russia

Alexander Romanov and Ryan Poehling will go head to head for a spot in the gold medal game in a rematch of last year’s quarter-final where the United States beat the Russians handily. This year, the Russians are riding high. They have not lost a game in the tournament and seem to have hit another level after a slow start against Switzerland. For the Americans, Jack Hughes returned to the lineup, and it is not yet known whether Canadiens prospect Cayden Primeau will get his third straight start. The game will be shown on TSN 1/3/4/5 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the USA.

8 PM ET: Switzerland vs Finland

Switzerland is four years removed from battling for their life in the relegation round, and now find themselves a game away from a guaranteed medal. The Swiss used a great start to shock Sweden in the quarter-final and now get set for their most important game in this tournament. Finland had a comeback for the ages against Canada, forcing overtime and then winning. Eeli Tolvanen played his best game of the tournament against Canada and will look to continue that to get the Finns back to the gold medal game. The game will be on TSN 1/4/5 and RDS in Canada and NHL Network in the United States.

All games shown on TSN will be streamed on TSN Go in Canada, but it requires a subscription to TSN.
