2019 World Junior Hockey Championship schedule: January 5, 2019

Bronze Medal game

4 PM ET: Russia vs Switzerland

Both teams, as is the norm in the bronze medal game, will be disappointed that they are in this position, but the happier of the two teams will likely be the Swiss. After a tough loss to Finland, they will look to bounce back against the Russians. Klim Kostin and the rest of the Russians were visibly upset after their loss to the United States and it will be interesting to see how they respond in this one.

The start to the game will be huge. Switzerland will want to come out a lot better than they did against Finland, and if the Russians aren’t motivated at puck drop, they could be in for a surprise. Alexander Romanov is the top scoring defenceman in the tournament and will look to put an exclamation point on his claim for the World Juniors all-star team.

Russia won the group stage between these two teams 7-4 in a game that was wildly entertaining. The game will be on TSN 1/3/4/5 and RDS in Canada. NHL Network in the US will also show the game.

Gold Medal game

8 PM ET: United States vs Finland

This game is a rematch of the New Year’s Eve group stage game between these two teams where the USA won 4-1. It’s also the same matchup as the 2017 and 2018 World Under-18 Championship gold medal games.

Montreal Canadiens prospects will be front and centre in this game. Ryan Poehling is tied for the tournament scoring lead with five goals and three assists in six games and will look to add to that against Finland. Jesse Ylönen scored the Finns first goal against Switzerland, and has two goals and three assists.

In goal, it should be Habs’ draft pick Cayden Primeau (4-0-0, 1.25 GAA, .947 save percentage) in goal for the United States. Primeau started the last three games. Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen will get the start for Finland. Luukkonen has a 1.76 GAA and .933 save percentage in five games (3-2-0). The game will be on TSN 1/3/4/5 and RDS in Canada. NHL Network in the USA will show the game.

All games shown on TSN will be streamed on TSN Go in Canada, but it requires a subscription to TSN.
