New, comments

The Wild put seven past Niemi as penalties help doom the Habs.

NHL: Montreal Canadiens at Minnesota Wild Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

For our new readers and members, the Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and entertaining. Full recaps are up the morning after every game.

The Habs are on a winning streak, Mike Johnson is the color guy, AND MY SON IS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK.

On the other hand, the Habs apparently have lost seven straight against the Wild, so that all might change rather quickly.

First Period

  • Gotta say...I'm not super fond of this start, Habs...
  • The Wild have been really sharp, but fortunately, Niemi has been sharper.
  • Might just be me, but the puck seems to be bouncing an awful lot.
  • Thank you Nemo!
  • gulp
  • Shea, please don't break Gally less than half-way into the first.
  • Not sure what it says about this game that the fourth line and third pairing is the squad with the best offensive zone pressure so far....
  • Benn and Juulsen look really good right now actually.
  • BOOOOOOOOOOOO.
  • Listening to Johnson analyze play is such a treat.
  • That was a distinctly meh period.

Second Period

  • Get. Out. Of. Your. Own. End.
  • Oh no, Niederreiter.
  • Almost JoDru.
  • Aaaaand Weber takes a penalty. I have a bad feeling about this...
  • I hate being right.
  • Oh lord. That was very not good...
  • Again?? Really?? At least it didn't go in that time...
  • SERIOUSLY? Can we please be done now?
  • Well, Desi dropping the gloves is the most interesting thing that the Habs have done so far....
  • The only good thing about this game so far is the shot count.
  • Andrew. Andrew, why.
  • ...I hate everything....

Third Period

  • pokes Habs with a stick C'MON, DO SOMETHING.
  • Shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout shutout
  • That is not what I meant when I said do something.
  • Ok, so like, I realize that there's no such thing as the mercy rule, but can there be a mercy rule for the poor souls who have to watch the game??
  • Oh Max. So close.
  • HAVE I MENTIONED LATELY HOW MUCH I LOVE JEFF PETRY????
  • Shea, please, please stop hitting your teammates!!!
  • Oh Michael why.
  • I hate everything.
  • ...Wait...you're gonna put CAREY in this disaster of a game????
  • Screaming
  • *Reads the opening paragraph of this TSM* Ha. Haha. Ha ha ha. Ha. Haaa.
  • Hahah bless Mike Johnson.
  • I mean, I guess this is why you put Carey in the game, but still. Why.
  • These last five minutes are going by SO SLOWLY.
  • With the exception of like, seven minutes in the second, and Carey Price, this game was an exercise in torturing us poor fans.
  • Though Johnson makes a good point. This season has definitely gone better than many feared it would up until this point.
  • Still. This was BAD.
  • Habs lose 7-1.

(Only) Highlight of the Game

Jeff Petry provides the lone bright spot (besides Juulsen coming back, and Price looking as good as he has this whole road trip).
