Not even the return of Shea Weber could halt the Montreal Canadiens’ losing streak, as they fell for a fifth consecutive time on Monday night. However, they did allow just 22 shots and two goals against, so there is encouraging news for the defensive game with the number-one defender back in the fold.

Now the focus shifts to restoring the offensive contributions, and they get a helping hand — and some quick feet — for that task tonight. Paul Byron is back in after missing the entire month of November, and will be Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s winger in tonight’s game versus the New York Rangers. It gives the rookie a player known for his finish around the goal to work with, and that could very well turn out to be a productive duo for the game, and possibly beyond.

Carey Price will have Weber and Brett Kulak in front of him facing the Rangers’ top offensive elements. If the Habs were able to limit the shots of the trigger-happy Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, they should be able to contain New York’s forwards, and work more on getting goals at the opposite end tonight.
