In a battle of old rivals, who will come out on top?
In the first semi-final of the day, a classic rivalry between the USA versus Russia are playing once more for a chance at all the glory. In their previous matchup, the Americans beat the Russians 3-2 with Russia staging a late-game comeback that came up short.
This should be a relatively even game, just like the last one. The Russians are a skilled group that matches up well against the Americans’ speed. Ilya Samsonov is regarded as one of the best young goalies outside of the NHL. Up front, the Russians have shown that they can pick you apart and score, especially the likes of Kirill Kaprizov, Mikhail Vorobyov, and Alexander Polunin on the top line. The Americans have been giving teams fits with their speed and their power play. Both American goalies have been strong, with Joseph Woll having gotten the start in the quarter-final. The Americans won the last matchup between these two teams, so they might have the upperhand this game, but never discount the Russians.
