2017 Memorial Cup Final: Windsor Spitfires vs. Erie Otters open thread

Windsor Spitfires vs. Erie Otters

Nine teams have managed to win the Memorial Cup as the host club, and only seven teams have managed to win without earning a league banner. Tonight, the Windsor Spitfires will attempt to add to both numbers as they face the Erie Otters in the final. The last CHL team to win the Cup without winning their league was the Shawinigan Cataractes back in 2012.

The Spitfires have been the Cinderella team of this particular tournament, earning victories over Saint John, Seattle, and Erie in the process.

Interestingly, the Otters have the top five scorers at the Memorial Cup at the moment, partially due to the fact that they played an additional game, and partially because they’re an incredibly talented team.

Habs prospect Jeremiah Addison has led the charge for Windsor offensively, producing a fantastic five goals and one assist in just three games.

As is tradition, Mikhail Sergachev will be tasked with shutting down the best opposing forwards. In this particular case that means keeping a close eye on OHL player of the year Alex DeBrincat. Sergachev is currently third in scoring among defencemen at the Memorial Cup, with a goal and two assists.

Prospects: Mikhail Sergachev (D-WSR), Jeremiah Addison (F-WSR)

Game starts at 7:00 PM EDT / 4:00 PM PDT
