Montreal Canadiens news and notes

  • Our own Marc Dumont joined the folks at Silver Seven for a Battle of Ontario podcast episode [Silver Seven]
  • There's going to be a lot of focus on the World Cup for the next while, and Canadiens players are representing several different countries. For Team Canada, Carey Price should be the starter in nets, and he's feeling good! [TSN]
  • Another Hab on Team Canada, alternate captain Shea Weber, left his neighbours in Nashville a suggestion for whom to cheer for next season, and it ain't the Predators:
  • Had Shea Weber not been traded to Montreal, there would not be a single skater on Team Canada playing for a Canadian NHL team. That is sobering. [Globe and Mail]
  • Carey Price is clearly one of the biggest stories for Team Canada, and in news that could possibly make you fall to your knees in relief, he could be ready by Friday. We haven't seen him play since November. [CBC Sports]

Around the League and elsewhere

  • Jonathan Drouin has had quite the rollercoaster year - and it led up to being named to Team North America for the World Cup [TSN]
  • Steven Stamkos, passed over for the Vancouver Olympics and then injured before Sochi, is finally getting his chance at best-on-best hockey. "It's huge." [Sportsnet]
  • Nathan MacKinnon, Avalanche wunderkind, thinks Team North America, "can beat anybody." []
  • Frederik Andersen, recently acquired by the Leafs and also recently injured, is out for Team Europe in the World Cup [TSN]
