World Cup of Hockey: What would Canada's second and third teams look like

New, comments

There was so much talent left at home by Team Canada, we couldn't stand idly by and watch it go to waste.

Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

So much talk today will be about who was left off of Team Canada's World Cup of Hockey roster instead of who was named to it. So we decided to take a look at the B and C teams of Team Canada if they were send them to the World Cup of Hockey.

While Team North America didn't really hurt the USA or Canada's roster, they definitely hurt Canada's secondary options. No player eligible for that team (23 or under) will be considered for these teams.

Goaltending

With Carey Price, Braden Holtby and Corey Crawford out of the way, there are a lot of goaltenders to consider here.

The first two spots are pretty obvious to me. Martin Jones has been money during these playoffs and would likely be Price's replacement should he not be ready to go for the tournament.

Joining Jones will be Roberto Luongo. Luongo is not getting any younger, but he is still a very good goaltender.

Other players considered were Cam Talbot, Cam Ward, Jake Allen, Marc-Andre Fleury, Devan Dubnyk, James Reimer and others.

Defence

The goal here is to take the best defencemen possible. I don't care if you shoot left, right, or use your hockey stick like a pool cue. Canada did us a favour by not including P.K. Subban and he will be our number one defenceman along with Mark Giordano, and others. The fact that Kris Letang and Ryan Ellis are on this team was so crazy it made us want to do a C Team as well.

Forwards

Once again, there's a lot of talent here that the main roster thought were too old, too small, or too slow. Consider this the MoneyPuck approach. All I care about is how talented you are. Corey Perry? Come on down! You too, Brendan Gallagher. The hardest thing was not to find the players, but decide who they were going to play with.

Without further ado, here are the Canada II and Canada III teams for this year's World Cup of Hockey.
