The Canes regained their lead on a goal by Noah Hanifin with Alexei Emelin screening in front of his goaltender.

Max Pacioretty unloaded a wrist shot from between the faceoff circles that handcuffed Cam Ward to tie it 1-1 just over eight minutes later, and is now tied with Alex Galchenyuk for the team lead in goals with his 28th of the season.

Daniel Carr put the Habs ahead 3-2, driving to the net and tipping a shot from Tomas Plekanec after the took broke into the Canes' zone two on two. That was Carr's sixth goal of the season and he's in the middle of his 22nd career NHL game.

The Habs lead 3-2 heading into the third period.
