With the NHL Draft Lottery taking place tonight at 7 PM EDT, it's time to start dreaming about the potential of the young players that will be selected at the actual draft in June.

We used six sources that are recognized as some of the better guides/insiders in the business: Hockey ProspectBob McKenzieCraig ButtonDraft BuzzFuture Considerations and International Scouting Service. Some of these rankings are still to be finalized leading up to the Draft.

As it stands, the Habs are slated to pick ninth, but with the draft lotteries they may end up jumping to first, second or third. There's also the possibility that they get leapfrogged by one to three teams, which would leave them with the 10th, 11th, or 12th overall pick.

If you're unsure about the rules and odds of the NHL Draft Lottery, you can find out all the information you need by clicking here.

Here are the official odds for the Habs:

  • 1st overall: 5%
  • 2nd overall: 5.6%
  • 3rd overall: 5.4%
  • 9th overall: 51.8%
  • 10th overall: 28.6%
  • 11th overall: 3.4%
  • 12th overall: 0.1%
In all likelihood they won't change positions, although it's worth noting that the odds tell us the Habs are more likely to drop a spot or two rather than rising into the top 3.
