Canadiens vs. Rangers third period thread

The Rangers grabbed the lead back 1:32 in the second period, going up 2-1 on Derick Brossard's 27th of the season.

The Habs turned it back up the ice, with the David Desharnais and Sven Andrighetto working together to draw a penalty. The best chance of the powerplay would come when Alex Galchenyuk gave up the puck at the Rangers' blue-line that created a two-on-one going the other way that he would skate back to break up.

Andrei Markov got sent off for hooking, and the Rangers gained a 3-1 lead on the powerplay with none other than Chris Kreider burying a one-timer to put the Habs down by two.

Another giveaway by Alex Galchenyuk in the offensive zone would give the Rangers a 4-1 lead, with Chris Kreider scoring his second goal in 1:13 after he intercepted Galchenyuk's pass back to the point and broke in alone on Mike Condon.

The Rangers didn't let up, going one shift with almost two minutes of sustained pressure in the Canadiens' zone. The Habs escaped the pressure, and then drew to within two goals withPhillip Danault taking a beautiful centering pass from David Desharnais, who skated into three Rangers' backing into their zone all the way to the back of the net where he whipped it around to the slot to Danault who fired it in.

The Rangers regained their three-goal lead with Alexei Emelin in the penalty box and 41 seconds left on the clock to end the second period.

The Habs trail 5-2 heading into the third period.
