The Habs gave up the first goal of the game on a man-disadvantage, with Wayne Simmonds potting home the tail end of a perfect tic-tac-toe with Brayden Schenn and Jakub Voracek.

Ryan White went after Dale Weise after Max Pacioretty hit Chris VandeVelde. The Canadiens went down 17-9 in shot attempts after the ensuing four-on-four ended.

The Flyers got another powerplay, with Max Pacioretty sent off for interfering with Sam Gagner. Brayden Schenn won the faceoff and ended up finishing the play to put the Flyers up 2-0 six seconds after their powerplay started.

The Habs got a powerplay with under three minutes left in the first period. They worked the puck around the Flyers zone, and Andrei Markov finished to put the Habs to within one goal on a missed shot by Alex Galchenyuk that deflected off the backboards and to Markov who buried it from the side of the net.
